New Kid On The Block? Puritalia Berlinetta - The 965bhp hybrid hypercar
What Is The Puritalia Berlinetta?
If you’re like us, you would have never heard of Puritalia Berlinetta.
The new hypercar from the relatively unknown Italian manufacturer was first shown at the Geneva Motor Show, back in March 2019. It’s safe to say it went a little under our radar thanks to the onslaught of new hypercar announcements that Geneva had.
This hybrid hypercar will be the first supercar from Puritalia, who started trading back in 2010. Their dream is to build a classically styled supercar using modern day technology. Combining the old ruthless supercar style with the drive-ability of a modern car.
What Do We Know About The Puritalia Berlinetta?
So far, we know a few key details about the type of car the Berlinetta will be. We know it will feature a front-mounted V8 petrol engine combined with a rear-mounted electric motor. When these two elements are combined, the car will produce 965bhp and capable of a top speed of 208mph.
With 965bhp, Puritalia claim the Berlinetta will be the most powerful Italian hybrid supercar on the market, edging out the LaFerrari which produces 950bhp.
Puritalia seem to be following the precedent set by their Italian competitors Maserati. They will be focusing on high end luxury instead of simply chasing performance. You can already see this influence just by looking at the exterior which is smoothly styled and gorgeous from every angle.
What Is The Performance?
The 5-litre V8 engine will produce 750 bhp at 7,000 rpm along with 648 lb-ft of torque. It will be fitted with a seven-speed automated manual transmission which will sit behind the driver allowing for better balance.
The electric motor will produce an extra 215 bhp and 273 lb-ft of torque, and will deliver extra power when the clutch is open. This will allow gear shifts to feel almost seamless. The battery itself is only large enough to give 12.4 miles of electric only driving, however this isn’t their main functionality. Primarily they will be used to produce that 965 bhp output that Puritalia are claiming.
What is Superhybrid mode?
Superhybrid mode is possibly the most interesting part of the Berlinetta. It utilises a cloud-based system to dynamically process variables such as traffic, weather conditions, your battery level and your driving behaviour. And with that information it will pre-determine when your likely braking, turning and acceleration points will be for the upcoming road. The system will then pre-set the car’s driving dynamics to best handle the upcoming road. Impressive!
How Much Will The Puritalia Berlinetta Cost?
The cost of the Berinetta hasn’t been confirmed as of yet, however we do know that only 150 will be manufactured. Each customer will get access to their own design team, to allow them to customise their new Italian supercar to fit their needs.
When Will We Know More About The Berlinetta?
Our next change to see the classy Puritalia Berlinetta will be at Salon Privé which is now in its 14th year. The motoring event will take place at England’s Blenheim Palace and will be the car’s UK debut. The Salon Privé show is a perfect place to showcase this luxury Italian car, as the show prides itself as a prestigious event.
Along with the debut of the Berlinetta, Puritalia is also set to announce their official UK and Australian dealership plans. There will be a private event after the main show, where ‘selected customers’ will be among the first to test-drive the new Italian supercar.
When asked about the companies UK debut, Paolo Parente, who is the CEO and founder of Puritalia, said: “We are thrilled to present our Berlinetta for the first time in the UK at this year’s Salon Privé.
“The huge interest we have received from the UK proves how much the British motor culture still appreciates traditional skills and craftsmanship, where Italian cars, just like the British ones, are second to none.”
Another manufacturer who released a new hypercar at the Geneva Motor Show was Bugatti with their La Voiture Noire. Check out everything we know so far.
